Capturing the AI Revolution in Higher Education

Student researchers at John Jay College have documented the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on learning, relationships, and academic life in higher education. Through podcasts and in-depth analysis, they offer unique perspectives and practical guidance for navigating this pivotal moment in the evolution of education.

Why We Made This Resource

In Fall 2024, students in a Psychology Research Methods course at John Jay College found themselves at the intersection of learning research methodology and living through a transformative moment in educational history. As they learned about research design, data collection, and analysis, they also recognized that their perspectives as students navigating AI's integration into education were largely absent from academic discourse.

Working in research teams, these students investigated different aspects of AI's impact on higher education—from changes in student-faculty relationships to the way COVID-19 accelerated AI adoption. They examined existing research, identified critical gaps, and designed studies to address these gaps. Most importantly, they shared their lived experiences through group podcasts, offering insights that only students living through this transformation could provide.

This website serves as both an archive of their research and a time capsule of this pivotal moment in educational history. It offers practical guidance for students and faculty while documenting the complex reality of AI's integration into academic life.

Questions You Might Have For Us

Please reach us at dr.emese.ilyes@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

As the primary users navigating AI in education daily, students offer unique insights that researchers and educators often miss. Our research teams combine lived experience with rigorous methodology, documenting how AI is actually being used, its impact on learning and relationships, and what needs to change. This perspective is crucial for developing effective educational policies and practices.

For students: Find practical guidance and peer insights about navigating AI in education.

For educators: Gain understanding of student experiences and needs around AI integration.

For researchers: Access primary source documentation of this pivotal moment in educational history. All materials can be cited with appropriate attribution to the student research teams and John Jay College.

This research emerged from a Fall 2024 Psychology Research Methods course at John Jay College (CUNY). Student teams investigated different aspects of AI's impact through literature reviews, analysis of current conversations, and research design. Each team created a podcast documenting their findings and experiences. Together, these investigations provide a comprehensive view of AI's impact on higher education during this transformative moment.
