About Us: We are living through an incredible transformation

At John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY), Fall 2024 marked a unique moment in our Research Methods course. Under the guidance of Dr. Emese Ilyès, we embraced a radical approach: acknowledging that students are the primary experts in understanding how AI is transforming higher education.

Our Approach

Rather than treating AI as merely a subject of study, we recognized it as both a tool and a force reshaping education. As student researchers learned the foundations of psychological research methods, they simultaneously documented their own experiences navigating this technological transformation. Each research team investigated different aspects of AI's impact, from changes in student-faculty relationships to questions of academic integrity and critical thinking.

Why This Matters

We are living through a pivotal moment in educational history. While much is written about AI in education, student voices are often missing from these conversations. Our research fills this gap by combining rigorous methodology with lived experience. The result is a unique archive documenting how students are actually experiencing and adapting to AI's integration into academic life.

The Collaborative

Our researchers are undergraduate students at John Jay College, representing diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. What unites us is our commitment to understanding how AI is reshaping education and our belief that student insights are crucial for navigating this transformation thoughtfully and effectively.

Our Goal

This project aims to center student wisdom in conversations about AI and education. By sharing our research, experiences, and insights, we hope to help educators, administrators, and other students understand both the challenges and opportunities of this moment. Most importantly, we want to contribute to developing approaches that enhance rather than diminish the educational experience.
